Bruised Goliath Holds Off Long Ball Specialist David

By: Nick | April 14th, 2007

roon.jpg The prospect of being in the first Cup Final at the expensively assembled ‘Church of Football‘ is a decent one - but is it really worth losing another player in the process?. Simply put, no.

We could have really done without this game, compounded by Rio Ferdinand limping off before half time, and Edwin van der Sar’s nose being battered again. When you finish the match with Darren Fletcher at right back, it’s not a particularly good thing.

But thanks in part to Alan Smith and Wayne Rooney’s inspired link up play we prevailed over the ‘plucky’ (read: not very skillful Watford). Was the result ever truly in doubt?

I suspect nobody (Sir Alex included) knows who’ll be the back four on Tuesday, in a far more important match versus Sheffield United. I’d not be surprised to see the match program vendor.
