The Title Winning Season in Review: Liverpool (H) October 22nd
By: Nick | June 7th, 2007The visit of arguably United’s biggest rivals is always one to savor, no more so than when a United win would leave the two clubs eleven points apart in the title race.
And win we did (quite comfortably in the end) thanks to a strike from Scholes on his 500th outing for United, and a rare effort from Rio Ferdinand.
Despite an optimistic Summer for Liverpool and their following, The Guardian echoed the reality after the result:
“As Manchester United eased themselves back to the top of the table it was clear that the visitors, 11 points behind, are no nearer mounting a bid for the title. Despite their summer spending, it proves to be Sir Alex Ferguson’s team who are developing a challenge to Chelsea”.
That summed up the season pretty well really.
