The Line Between Van Driver and Midfield Driving Force

By: Nick | January 18th, 2007

van.jpg I’ve a great affinity for Paul Scholes. In today’s age of the “baby Bentley” footballer, Scholes is the complete antithesis - quiet family man, firmly down to earth, and only ever in the headlines for his exploits on the pitch. What a commodity these days!

I enjoyed this piece, about the early career of Scholes in United’s famous youth team - and just how different things could have ended up for him. It also reveals to me just how Paul Scholes has remained true to himself. I can actually picture him as a humble van driver, and not the highly decorated, World class footballer he became. Can’t say the same for Beckham.
