As you can see from my exclusive fake picture – referees are about to get some valuable help in determining goal line decisions. Or they would, if Sir Alex had his druthers.
It’s an argument unlikely to be resolved soon – or at least until a disputed goal decides a World Cup final. Then I’m sure there’d be immediate action. I don’t see why the fourth official can’t take a quick break from getting verbal abuse from the managers – and pop into the tunnel for a quick look at the tv coverage. Easy solution!
Or perhaps you could paint the inside of the goal green with really long drying paint – and if there’s a smudge in the shape of a ball – it’s a goal! Or perhaps just introduce video technology.
