Ryan Giggs — Football Manager?
By: Nick | March 25th, 2007
While there’s undoubtedly still plenty of fuel left in the playing tank at the moment - according to the Manchester Evening News, Ryan Giggs might someday wish to fulfill the great honor of managing his country.
Roy Kean’s instant taking to management is I believe, the tip of the iceberg for former Sir Alex Ferguson players making the jump from pitch to dugout (Gary Neville pops into mind as another likely manager someday).
I’ve a feeling too that most will be successful. For surely there are fewer better people to have served under (and also to pick their brain during the inevitable tricky moments).
I’ve a strong feeling that Roy Keane might be the right person to replace Sir Alex - the best way to survive the end of a legendary era might be to turn to someone with equal legendary status.

I think Keane’s a great choice to replace Fergie. He’s got a name that Man U fans revere, and so they’ll welcome him, but more importantly, look at what he’s doing over at Sunderland. He seems to have been listening to Sir Alex, at least some of the time. He’s busy writing his own legend over there at the Stadium of Light. We’ll see if Ryan also has the chops, though - I just don’t think he’s quite the football mind that Roy is, but time will tell.

You’re right about Giggsy’s footballing brain - he never seems like he’s sharpest knife in the drawer. Then again, do managers have to be the brightest? Look at Neil Warnock - he’s completely mad!
It’ll be great to follow the managerial career of Roy Keane. He will manage for many years to come, and certainly at a big club or two… I think he’ll be ideal as a replacement for Fergie (provided this Sunderland start is not a fluke).
