Rooney Produces Two (United Should Have Had Four)
By: Nick | January 29th, 2007
So the ball crossed the goal line five times, and United won 2-1. Thankfully the result means we don’t have to endure days of fresh debate about the use of video replay to oversee dodgy ref calls. The ball clearly crossed the line before Pedro Mendes ironically scooped it out, and Henrik Larsson’s sublime finish was cruely denied by a very poor offside call.
Speaking of sublime - Rooney’s winner gave us a new example of the talent that lies deep within a still growing footballer. The temper seems to have been slightly curbed these days, but we are nowhere near to witnessing the finished article just yet.
So it’s smoothly on to the last sixteen, and a decent home tie against Reading. No givens in that match - unlike Chelsea’s incredulous slice of luck. I wonder how many rubles that one cost them…
