Put Yourself in the Red Nosed Old Man’s Shoes — Pick Your Best 11

By: Nick | August 3rd, 2007

11.jpgToday’s Football365 contained a rather interesting piece about the curious dilemma facing Sir Alex this approaching season — how to pick his best eleven players.

With 39 players considered good enough for the first team, we have two, and perhaps even three separate starting elevens — all of them pretty damn capable.

So the question is, if you were picking the team, and you had one game to win under whatever circumstances (and barring any injuries) — what eleven would be your ideal eleven?

One match. Regardless of opponent. Starting formation aside. Even though we’ve yet to get a grasp of the new signings. One starting eleven.

For me:

1. Van der Sar
2. Neville
3. Evra
4. Vidic
5. Ferdinand
6. Hargreaves
7. Ronaldo
8. Carrick
9. Scholes
10.Rooney
11.Tevez

12.Kuszczak
13.Giggs
14.Nani
15.Anderson
16.Saha

Tough to think about this without thinking formation. I look at that lineup and immediately think width is lacking in midfield … and yet, with Carrick or whoever tucked in, Evra could really get up the wing …

Guess it’s time to fire up Championship Manager. Football Manager. Whatever it’s called now. Heh.

As far as am concerned ,united is in need for two or three more players. espesialy in the striking department they have to get Huantler and either Anelka or Defoe. In the defence they have to strengthen the leftback position by adding Baines and Chellini. By this they can field two competive teams in the season . This will avoid the player burn out or injuary problems which they faced in the end of the season cost them two important titles. By this Mr. Fergusun can have two well equiped teams at any point of time.He can sell Heinze, Smith, Silvesture,Richardson,Saha and Rossi. My two teams are as follows
    1. Van de sar 1. Kuszczak

    2.Chellini 2. Evra
    3. Vidic 3. Evans
    4. Ferdinand 4. Pique
    5.Nevile 5. O.Shea

    6.Hargreeves 6. Carrick
    7.Scholes 7. Fletcher
    8.Nani 8. Anderson

    9.Ronaldo 9. Giggs
    10.Tevez 10. Huantler
    11.Rooney 11. Anelka

    12.Bradlsly 12.Baines
    13.Simpson 13.Martin
    14. Eagles 14.Gibson
    15.Park 15.Solsjkar
    16.Camphell 16.Dong

I agree with your projected starting 11 for the new season. I however do think Giggs will start alot of games. Man U still needs a couple more players as one person mentioned. They definately need two more defenders for sure seeing that Heinze doesn’t want to play for United anymore.

i think this will allow us to run fresh legs all the time once FA Cup and Champions League start. no excuses this year.

i also agree that Giggs will get the nod pushing Ronaldo up front and possible splitting time 3-way with Rooney/Tevez. screw it, put Rooney in the net.
