BREAKING NEWS? Paul Scholes Triumphant Return?
By: Taylor Rockwell | December 2nd, 2008
Both The Sun and Goal.com are reporting that Paul Scholes will make his triumphant return in tonight’s match against Blackburn. According to sources, “He has been back on the training ground for two weeks and could be in the line-up come kick off time against Blackburn Rovers in tonight’s Carling Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford.”
Now, it is generally a wise idea to take ANYTHING that The Sun publishes with a big old grain of salt, but I will admit that Paul Scholes’ presence in the center of midfield would go a long way towards alleviating my fears about the remainder of the season. That said, I don’t actually expect to see Scholes play any role in the match tomorrow. Even if he his healthy, to risk such a vital figure for the remainder of the campaign in a match that will no doubt be a highly physical affair would be insanity.
Then again, how often have we seen Fergie make a move that can only be described as, well, insane? So, what do we think? Any chance the 34-year-old figures in the match, or should we all keep holding our breath until January/February/March/April/May/Retirement?

UPDATE: So it appears that Scholes WILL indeed be fit enough to at least sit the bench tonight. Everyone be sure to remember that this was posted on United Offside a full six hours before it went up on Soccernet…. so suck on that one ESPN!
