Battles Lines Drawn: United and Ronaldo Seem Ready for a Fight

By: Nick | June 21st, 2008

So now were set for a very public pissing contest. We’ll see who backs down first.

Should United let him walk? Or should he be allowed to dictate his own future?

Personally, I think United can kick and scream all they want, but in today’s player driven world of modern football — can they realistically force the best player on the planet to remain at a place he quite clearly has decided he doesn’t want to remain at?

I’m not so sure. You?

I think we should sell him, suck everything possible out of Real…get Ashravin(or some other good attack minded winger) and Pavlyuchenko , adn get an extremely good right back…play Nani on a fast track the Ronalddo way ..on the wing..we’ll be fine…it will take one or max two seasons to adjust back…but the thing is we have to do this NOW…because Fergie has only a couple of years left now…the sooner we start re-building the better… :D

Now, listen, I might seem a bit foolish, but why not trying to get Arshavin? With all the money Real should give us, we could easily afford him….. Does anybody know any problems which might prevent us from buying Arshavin?

P.S: I agree with Mat,I was very impressed by Russia last night, Pavlyuchenko may be a good choice too.

Stand firm, make Real Madrid wait and grow increasingly desperate, make Cristiano sit out pre-season, and perhaps the first few weeks of the season, and then sell him to another club.

arshavin? seriously? i know he’s had some great moments at the euros but do we really need him even if ronaldo goes? is he more valuable potential wise than anderson or nani who are both younger than he is (27?) both of them will have more room to roam w/ ronaldo gone if that’s the case. is he better than rooney or carlitos right now? might as well just roll w/ those guys w/ the money going towards a right back and a big striker.

We would seriously need a right winger (both sided winger like Ronaldo might be good…as then we can switch him and Nani if needed and play Giggs whenever he is capable and healthy) if Ronaldo leaves..he needs to be young…
I can understand the opposition to Ashravin, but we seriously need some tall and big striker..and Pavlyuchenko at his tender age is so perfect for it right now…ok he might not be the best but with ou offense we can easily give him time to grow…i don’t think there is a need to go for Eto’o if we have the money…
boy I’d love it if we do buy van der Vaart and/or Sneijder …because of the fact that we would loose our main freekick taker too if the punk leaves! ;)

i know, i know the old here’s my lineup game but seriously what’s so wrong w/ something like that? nani is the ronaldo replacement right now, he can play both flanks…i’m not so sure that anderson can’t either. the obvious weaknesses are the ones we’ve all already said…depth @ the back especially for wes brown and the striker thing. i wonder if anyone @ old trafford has thought about trezeguet?

ive been here before, and proudly announced i hate manchester united, but i think i hate ronaldo even more.

ferguson should setup a meeting in the heart of manchester, in a pub where all the man.utd fans hang out. then ronaldo should announce to all the fans there he wants to leave for real madrid. lets see if the wanker has the balls for that. if he says it, everybody should beat the shit out of him.

i cant believe ferguson is putting up with this crap. and this is extremely unprofessional on ronaldo’s part. what a faggot.

But the vital thing is that we HAVE to sell him off this year…or max next year…as this drama will continue every year…we are better off without him… Let’s build a new team…not many additions needed and Ronaldo will fund all this and probably two year more of transfers!
Shehan ..u are welcome here!…the ONLY reason Ferguson is putting up with him is that he knows that he is leaving Manchester soon and may not have time to build again a super team like the last one!..and the fact that this has now become an ego issue more than anything

If you’d like some confirmation on Ronaldo to Madrid, its true. My friend in Madrid is a photographer, and is doing a photoshoot with him this coming week. Sorry United fans.

ive said it before…ill say it again. no player is bigger than any club. united was huge before ronaldo and will be huge and win trophies once hes gone. imo, if a player doesnt want to be at any club….let him go. in this case wed get a crap-load of money for him and we could get many replacements. i think our biggest need though right now is a big striker. a drogs/ruud type. so let ron go if he wants, and jsut rebuild.

Oh I was working and it struck me!…we should probably go for Ribery as a winger…it would pretty much be a straight swap if Ronaldo leaves…plus he is young too…i see no reason why not…but if we do go for him we will seriously need a Tall striker…as our forward line would be Rooney, Tevez, Nani, Giggs (and maybe Ribery) ….all small!!

Mukilla…we are not the people who are sit on our asses like the other teams if we know what is coming…its called pragmatism which ManUtd certainly are…(we know every team needs to keep improving every year, even if they won a double or not)…which sadly Pool and Arsenal are lacking these days ..Chelsea are a different beast with the roubles!
